We had dinner tonight at perrenial favorite Sichuan Garden...special flavored peanuts, camphor tea smoked duck, cucumbers w/ chili vinaigrette, ma po dofu, scallion pancake...all excellent as usual, save the scallion pancake which tonight was too doughy.
Anyway, we got there at 10pm and were asked to order quickly as the kitchen closes at 10:30, though the restaurant stays open until 11. We were bothered then that as soon as they put our food on the table they unplugged the fishtank, and began closing up the restaurant...making it clear that we were the reason that they couldn't go home yet. I was surprised by this as they are usually so welcoming and I noticed that Michael, the owner/host was not there (though his wife was). I asked the waiter if he'd gone home already and the waiter replied that no, they just opened a second Sichuan Garden in Woburn and Michael was there tonight! Did I miss a post about this? Apparantly it's been open for about a month. Hopefully this will not effect the quality of the Brookline location.
