Anyone in the Van Dorn section of Alexandria looking for Sichuan food? Surprisingly, the Van Dorn location of Chinese-American stalwart Charley Chiang has a separate Sichuan menu, so you don't have to partake of the buffet.
JohnB. first discovered this (based on an ad in a Chinese newspaper), and also it compares favorably on a local Chinese foodblog which found it clearly better than Sichuan Village. I agree completely.
Sweet potato noodles, wontons, pickled vegetables, whole fish and tofu, were all exceptional, no kidding. BUT, all came with red hot sauce, so we were desparate to try a different preparation.
Unfortunately, speaking English (as the staff does) is evidently not the same as understanding English. Although we ordered five spice rabbit, it too came with red hot sauce, so either communication was a problem or the chef was running out of ingredients. Rabbit was rubbery, avoid.
