Sichuan Chong Qing Cuisine - San Mateo

Foodnut8 | Jan 9, 201406:18 PM

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this place yet.

This restaurant takes the place of Pierre's. Brand new owner and chef along with a much improved interior.
Beware that the female server will start barking back at you like the soup nazi when she is busy.

Green Onion Pancakes ($4.95) looked messy but tasted far better. Good texture but not a lot of flavor.

Couple's Delight ($6.95) was bathed in nice red chili sauce. A bit salty, not as good as the next two dishes.

Chong Qing Style Chicken Chili Pepper ($10.95) included slightly too small cubes of fried chicken surrounded by a ton of chilis. Well done and worth ordering.

Cumin Lamb ($12.95) wasn't the best version we had in the Bay Area, but a reasonable dish that wasn't too greasy.

Tea Smoked Duck ($10.95 Half) was also worth while dish full of smokey goodness.

Sweet Red Beans Wrapped Sticky Rice ($6.95) came freshly steamed and is worth saving room for. Small balls of glutinous rice filled with sweet red bean paste.

Overall - Good
Food - Very Good
Decor - Good
Service - Fair
Value - Good
