Siam Lotus - Thai restaurant

gdp | Nov 7, 2003 11:14 AM

Siam Lotus has recently opened up right next to Colosimo's gun shop, the high volume dealer at 9th and Spring Garden. I'm told that this is the restaurant's gussied-up second coming with the some of the same kitchen staff but maybe new owners. I don't know anything about these details but I can tell you that the food has been quite tasty: rich coconut curry sauces so good and full of spices you could eat it plain with rice; fresh, crunchy vegetables [even the hated baby corn had some snap]; good-sized fresh shrimp; everything at the right temperatue and doneness; simple yet elegant presentation; perfectly cooked rice...

Their menu offers a wide selection of dishes, which -yes- includes
a deliciously chewy Phad Thai [one of only 2 or 3 noodles dishes available at dinner- the lunch menu report that more noodles can be had in the daylight hours]. Sure, some items and drinks are maybe a dollar or two more than most Thai places but attention to detail and quality costs more too, right?

The staff is friendly and efficient and seem to be ready for the crowds that they deserve. I'll check back here next week for glowing, full review that someone is sure to post.
