I discovered Shwarma in, of all places, London. There is a Little Lebanon near Marble Archand the best Shwarma i had was at a little place called Beirut Express.
they had both chicken and lamb, the the lamb was the best. The lamb was not shredded, but was layered in filets on the vertical spit, with a marvleous marinade dripping over it. The sandwich had a terrific sauce (I wish i knew what was in it--), and intense but not-too-hot pepper-pickles as well as tomato and lettuce. It was smokey, full of flavor--delicious!
Since then I've been trying to find something like it here in the States with no luck. The message board talks about a place on Macdougal St that has closed--I did a search here on chowhound and found no other leads.
Does anyone know of a place in NYC--or in the Northeast for that matter--that has really good Shwarma? thanks
