I've looked this up in several sources and found conflicting information. Some sources say shrimp are salt water while prawns are fresh, some say prawns are a slightly different animal while others say it is only a linguistic difference. The fish mongers I've asked vary as well.
What is the difference between shrimp and prawns? Is there a biological difference? When in England they call shrimp prawns but they look and taste like shrimp. When I was in Greece I was served prawns and they were better that any shrimp I ever had (they were also probably fresher than any, so that may have been the only difference). I bought something labeled "Black Tiger Prawns" the other day (and I know there are also black tiger shrimp) and they seemed to be just big shrimp.
Confused and looking to brilliant chowminds for help.
