do the shows that highlight great local places lie?

adam richman's show amazing eats had a saucy episode. one shown was phil's bbq in san diego.

anyone in sd can say its tasty food, but its patronized ike its the greatest thing since sliced bread. they call it bbq but its cooked in an oven and finished on a grill with a popular sauce. the ignored the oven prep on it.. they just showed how the grill uses mesquite wood.

first time i've seen a crap place shown with full production quality. if i didn't know better i'd say this was a must try place in sd.

are there any other places you've seen on shows you wouldn't recommend? what did they do to cover up its faults?
