A couple of casual and tasty lunches at K-Noodle in one of the Old Market alleyways. We had the K-Noodle soup with veggies (spicy Khmer noodle soup) and K-Noodle curry, shrimp lemongrass, and papaya salad. All of our noodles were handmade and deliciously toothsome. Cold white wine and Angkor draft to drink. Both meals were ~$20 (or a little less). One nice thing to note is that there is a cute a/c upstairs lounge/dining area.
Disappointing dinner at Indochine one night. We get the Khmer Discovery menu for 2: amok fish, a beef dish, veggies in coconut sauce, spring rolls. Definitely caters to the tour bus set, which we didn't know. Bland, bland, bland.
We splurged for a couple of nights at Villa Kiara way on the edge of town. The included breakfasts were quite good (big Western b-fast for B and i go with veggie rice noodle soup). Delicious fresh passionfruit juice was a highlight, too!
We had dinner one sultry night at Au Comptoir d'Asie - charming bistro-style place. B loved his loc lac and I got tagliatelle with zesty tomato sauce of all things! We ate at the zinc bar. (A/C for those interested.) I had a lovely rose to drink, while B stuck with beer.
A couple of lunches at Khmer Kitchen (on the main drag in Old Market). We got addicted to their iced lemongrass and lemon teas so we had to go back. Spicy Khmer soup with tofu was tasty but B's chicken lab (sic) looked so good, I had to steal a taste. Wow! Our second lunch there was tofu lab (not as good as the chicken). B's baby bamboo soup is really delicious! He out-ordered me again!
One free dinner at Villa Kiara was another highlight. Vermicelli with shrimp salad was the best course - refreshing and light. Everything else had chicken or beef, so I ate around the protein, but the spicy chicken soup was terrific and the beef was redolent with lemongrass. Dessert was a soup - sweet with tapioca and banana and coconut. Wow again! And I'm not a dessert person at all.
We loved Siem Reap! Can't you tell? (Photos by my husband B.)
