My husband and I are buying our first home together, and plan on doing a major kitchen reno when we move in. Which is particularly thrilling because I will finally be free from the extremely crappy fridge and stove that we've been relegated to in our current apartment. We want to get high quality appliances but within a reasonable budget. I'm hoping to keep the max price somewhere around $1,000 for each the fridge and the stove. I'm feeling very overwhelmed by my first forays into researching the brands/models, because there are just so many options that I don't know where to even begin. It's not like buying a stand mixer or a food processor where you know what the few standouts are and you choose among those. So I'm wondering if people have advice for how to shop for major appliances like these and choose from a field of dozens? Or if you have particular product recommendations? Or even just brands that are usually the best?
For the fridge, I'm hoping for at least a bottom freezer (ideally would love french doors but that may be out of our budget), and nothing too large since this will be an apartment galley kitchen. For the stove, the double-ovens look really awesome so that I can bake two things at different temps at the same time (not a need that comes up often, but would be great to have that option when it does), but I'm not sure if those are too gimmicky / worth the money.
