Shmankerl Stube, Hagerstown Report

Steve | Sep 2, 2005 09:42 PM

Shmankerl Stube is a 'crossroads' restaurant. It exists at the intersection of Authentic German cuisine, American expectations, Hagerstown casualness, elegant service, and DC prices.

The least expensive entree is $18 for the wurst platter, which I chose, and is very good. Prices rise to $26 for a filet peppersteak, which is good.

Even if you are unfamiliar with German cuisine, you will find everything on the menu recognizable and comfortable. There is no digging deep here. But to find a restaurant this good in Hagerstown, where you can dine in shorts or dressed up, makes for a fun change of pace.
