I had lunch at Shimizu on saturday, and was blown away by the quality and amount of sushi i got for my money. I asked Shimizu to prepare a selection of sushi for $40, thinking this would make for a moderately sized lunch. I ended up recieving a platter with 11 pieces of good-sized sushi and one negitoro maki. The sushi included uni, unagi, chu-toro, sweet shrimp (with the fried head), fluke fin, wild king salmon, and yellowtail belly. I loved the yellowtail belly and i don't know why more places don't serve it. For $40, i ate more than I did at Yasuda for $110. I'd say the quality was not quite as good as Yasuda, but was pretty close. Shimizu also told me about Shochu, a japanese liquor that they serve. It has an alcohol content between 20 and 30 percent, and is usually made from rice or barley, but Shimizu also had varieties made from sweet potato and brown sugar. I would recommend Shimizu to anyone looking for great sushi, but not wanting to spend Yasuda or Jewel Bako money.
