Had my first encounter with a Shenyang style restaurant (does anybody know what that is?) in El Monte. The outside of the restaurant says SY Restaurant, but inside it's clear that the name is Shenyang and that it represents at least in part some kind of regional cuisine. There were many items on the menu that I was not familiar with, including Bellflower Root, Corn Cake, Corn with Pine Nuts, Cumin Kidney, Lamb With Sponge Ground, and Pickled Auricularia. I ended up having the fish pot stickers, something I don't recall ever having--steamed or boiled fish dumplings yes, but never fried. It's at 4909 Santa Anita Ave., next to Sam's Club.
