Shaved ice

Hungry Hippo | May 16, 2006 06:38 PM

On Mother's Day, my family stopped at an ice cream place in the Ranch 99 strip mall at Lundy and Brokaw in San Jose, becuase my mom felt like shaved ice. I hated this stuff as a kid, but maybe it's because the weird machine my mom used to make it kind of scared me. I tried it again to appease my mom, and this version was actually really good. It was full of red and green beans and gooey rice balls and something about the milky sauce really worked. I had a second serving and tried to take a big styrofoam bucket of it home, but it was pretty much water by the time we made it back. Now I'd like to see if I've been missing out all these years. Where would you suggest getting Asian shaved ice in San Francisco (with red beans, etc., NOT a sno-cone)?
