We were in Washington a few weeks ago for the opera at Kennedy Center. We stayed at One Washington Circle, which was convenient and really excellent.
It was pouring so hard that we cancelled our reservation at Kinkead's (which had been recommended) and ate in our hotel restaurant. I think it is called the West End Cafe.
It was great!
Since its regular quarters were being renovated, we ate in a room that was temporarily converted for its use. There was a limited menu.
My husband had the onion soup, which was different from any other onion soup. Whatever the herbs, etc. used were, the soup was outstanding.
Both our entrees were marvellous. He had the steak frites, and his frites were so terrific that I would travel back just to have more. I had the tuna with Asian flavors, grilled rare the way I like it and superb.
Desserts were equally fine.
The renovation was supposed to be complete by Oct. 11, but I don't know if they were/are.
This is an excellent choice if you're going to the Kennedy Center, because the free shuttle bus leaves from across Washington Circle at the Metro stop.
If this place were in Philadelphia, where we live, we would be regulars. You've got a great chef here!
