I had a dream last night that was incredibly vivid. The thing that stands out the most, and why I post it here to share, is that it took place in a restaurant I frequented in my youth that is no longer there. The restaurant was Senior's on Nostrand Ave. in Brooklyn.
The dream brought back the taste of those awesome onion rings...I've been looking for a reasonable facsimilie of those for years, can't find 'em. Also, that great pink pickled cabbage and those yummy rolls that came with every meal were there. I can still almost taste the tang of that cabbage...
Yes, the din of the uncarpeted rooms was there in the background...the clatter of plates, a slice of ice cream cake roll with chocolate syrup, the Mushk steak (always Dad's order), the little stuffed animals they sold up at the cashier which always reminded me of Howard Johnson's...all there.
The neat old pictures of the Brooklyn of my parents' youth - Coney Island, Ebbets Field - that adorned the walls, that big-ass swordfish/marlin thing, the funky shell/rock embedded tables in the "coffee shop" side of the restaurant (I remember having to get on my knees on the booth seat at these tables in order to drink from the straw of an ice cream soda that towered over my short head!) all part of a memory I had no idea was so fully detailed and inscribed in my brain.
Anyone else remember?
