Sat. night we a family dinner at the Shangri-la Inn, on Montgomery Ave. in Bala Cynwd. While the food was tasty, the service was so bad I'd never go back.
When we go for Chinese, my family likes the family style where everyone orders something, and you all share. However that seemed to be a foreign concept here. No big deal, just give us some extra plates, some spoons, and we'll be fine. Plates? Silverware? Chopsticks? Trying to get any of them from the waiter was nearly impossible. When we were able to flag him down, anything we asked for was a major imposition. We finally got the plates… about the size of a saucer. And then the waiter promptly went to take them away from us as we tried to rearrange the plates on the table.
Following the meal, we asked for the leftovers to be packed up. The waiter did half of the food, then walked off. When we asked for the rest to be packed he acted all indignant.
Service was so bad, that on the way out we complained to the manager. He said he had a problem with that waiter, but wasn't over apologetic. Not even a token offer to take a small percentage off the bill this time, or anything to entice us to come back. It's been a long time since I've felt so unwelcome in a restaurant.
