I believe Ben already posted on this meal on Chowtimes but I couldn't find much on CH about this unfortunately named restaurant so here it is FWIW. js and ts had had a stellar meal here early in the fall and then it took us a few weeks to stage a rematch. We finally went in October and though they said it wasn't as good as the earlier foray, I found much to like.
Top dishes for me were the jelly pork (who knew?) and the duck, but really most everything was good. They have a very solid rendition of the seaweed fish that is better than Long's but not Ningtu's :-). The rice cakes were tasty with enough preserved veggies (some places seem to skimp). The only real disappointment was the pork eggplant with buns which was dull and fussy at the same time. The red braised pork could have been a bit more tender as well.
This is a beautiful restaurant, a cut above the Shanghai places I usually eat at. We had no trouble getting a table on a Friday night, and there is a parking lot underneath which is convenient. We'll be back for more jelly pork... does anyone know which other Shanghai restos make a good version of this dish? I saw it on Ningtu's daytime menu but we were there for the shaobing.
