Normally when I go to Shanghai, I eat very locally. This trip I had the opportunity to trip so new places, so I thought I'd do a trip report here:
Da Dong: New beautiful Peking Duck emporium: Beautiful place, excellent food. The duck is to die for. Excellent presentations, most great food. Must make a reservation.
Not much English spoken, but good service but worth a visit. Pricey.
Crystal Jade: Different type of Xiao Long Bao, almost tea flavored, but great. Spicy dumplings were great. Good place when you need a change from Din Tai Fung.
The Nest: This is THE PLACE to be! Sensational restaurant with amazing cocktails and soundtrack. The appetizers are served tapas style, but the mains are huge. Fantastic cocktails including the best whiskey sour you've ever tasted- seriously!! Don't miss this new hot spot!!
Jia Jia Tong Bao and Yangs: My favorite breakfast! Start at JJTB and have some pork, and then shrimp and pork soup dumplings, and then walk across the street and have Yangs- sheng jian bao. What a combination!!
Unico- A mediocre tapas bar on The Bund, BUT, on Tuesday nights, they have a live band from Cuba that is nothing short of fantastic!! You have to go here on Tuesdays. Amazing... order basic food and you'll be fine.
Schewan Citizen: This overhyped place was close to awful. The drinks were just ok, the food not so much. Avoid at all costs.
