Today, I returned to Shanghai in Oakland for another meal. I was impressed enough to return after one of the weekday Oakland lunches to check a couple of the finer points of their food.

I like the “New Year Rice Cake” the last time. At that time I said it “bit” back which made me think that it was house made. Today we had it again and without a doubt it is house made. The slices were of the same thickness but not all cut in the same angle like when a machine does it. In fact it “bit” back so much Mrs. Yimster said it was too tough. But today it was almost prefect.

The fried bread was also very good, freshly fried and still hot when it arrived.

We had the sweet rice roll with fried bread and pork sung. Soft and cool off but also fresh that day.

From the ready made table we got a order of fava beans. Tender and a flavorful but on the salty side. Need rice but I trying to cut back on starches.

The lone disappoint of the day was the sweeten soy bean milk. Unlike Shan Dong is was not “house made”. Or at least it did not taste house made.

We had enough leftover that I ate that for dinner.

Cost $14.80

But I was not able to get my stinky tofu. Really must be after 6:00 PM. But it is available daily. I will be back for dinner one day soon. In fact Mrs. Yimster said that she will order the posted specials off the wall next time and I will just keep my mount shut.

Being a big guy the cook remembered me in fact remember how many times I had been there. I really need to go on a diet soon.
