'Shanghai Nook, Hwy7/Woodbine, Markham' - Decent, traditional Shanghainese fare that outshines nearby 'Ala Kichen'.

I finally had a chance to try out the fairly new 'Shanghai Nook' yesterday night

Most dishes we ordered had sauces and seasoning that were spot-on. Shanghainese smoked fish, Braised Pork belly with bean curd knots, Stirred fry beef with oyster sauce...etc were all smothered in delicious gooey sauces!

Texture of the thin-thread Shanghainese noodles was perfectly cooked with just the right amount of al-dente chewiness. Thumbs up!

The pan fried pork buns were hands down winner of the meal. The combination of the well seasoned pork stuffing with the generous and delicious 'wine infused', umami ladened broth inside the thin casing was sheer joy to eat! The slightly burnt aroma from the crispy bottom also added a nice sensory component to the combo. IMHO, these buns were the best rendition in town....though the price of $6.99 for 4 buns was a bit steep!

Talk about pricing. I noticed they are very erratic and all over the place. Casing point, $3.99 for a glass of Soya bean milk?!....doubling the price of most of their competitors! Then there's the Shanghainese crispy ' confit ' duck. At $23.99 for half a bird. This was $7 more than Northern Dumpling Kitchen's tasty offering! Wow!

All in all, a delightful meal, albeit a touch on the expensive side!
