CASH ONLY. Finally tried Shanghai Noodle House for dinner Fri 12/3/10.
We eat early so no problem getting a table, in fact the small restaurant had lots of empty tables. Only 1 other party was there, & when we were leaving saw another family came in to eat.
We both had to count all our money because I hardly ever have cash, & B. was low. I counted about $30, B. had $4. We looked at the prices & decided we could eat there.
We ordered a lot because food is cheap & we wanted to try lots of stuff:
FREE tea eggs w/ side of pickled cabbage - we liked them.
FREE hot tea - from teabags, ok.
Shanghai style bun (aka XLB) $4.95 for 8 pcs. They look homemade, I only had 1 juicy dumpling, the others were dry. I still liked them.
Green onion pancake $2.95 - very gummy, not tasty, too pale. Skip it!
Chinese green w/ dry tofu $2.75 - tiny chopped up Chinese greens w/ tiny chopped up dry tofu. It was nice. B. liked it a lot.
Mushroom w/ gluten noodle $5.95 - Small bowl of mushroom w/ some gluten things Plus a Huge bowl of plain noodle w/ soup - the noodles are thin, super long, & soft. You can tell they are homemade & hear someone pounding out noodles in the kitchen! Mushroom w/ gluten things - fine.
Spicy hot beef noodle $6.25 - It's a Huge bowl of thin, super long noodles & soft. I loved the noodles, soup is way too spicy for me, beef was ok. They do a Non-Spicy version too called Braised Beef Noodle. Both the waiter said were popular.
Total with tip & tax $30!! CASH ONLY!! We made it out the door without doing dishes.
One unisex bathroom in the back. Plenty of parking in the back lot, some parking in the front.
Location: It's on the corner of Fremont Blvd & Grimmer - same strip mall as Tandoor House.
Open 6 days: 10:30-2:30pm; 5-9pm
