For the past 7 Covid-months, 'Fu Kee Dim Sum & Bao' on Milliken, Scarborough has been my go-to place for both Southern & Northern Chinese style Dim Sum. Sadly, in recent days, I found quality and value-for-money of their once excellent products has been dropping quicker than Canada's wonderland roller coasters! Ingredients were much inferior, quantity drastically shrunk!
Eager to find a replacement and do some stocking-up before the 2nd wave really hits. Today, I visited a recently recommended Northern Dim Sum place on Warden and Finch by the name of " Shanghai Frozen Dim Sum " and check it out. For my 'initial' try, I bought a bag of Pork Pot-Stickers and Xiao Lun Bao. Unfortunately, my favorite Shanghainese Shenjiang Bao were sold out!
For lunch, I tried out both their Pot stickers and XLB. As expected, due to the 'mass produce' nature of the products, appearance and ' packaging ' of the dumplings were a bit rough-with-an-edge. Specifically, the slightly thick wrapper/skin. However, this minor shortfall was more than make up by the well seasoned and delicious filling....fine, smooth texture and packed full of umami laden flavor. Both dumplings versions were packed generously full with flavorful broth! ( I personally do not care much if a bit of MSG were used to enhance such delicious flavor profile! ).
Cannot wait to go back for their Shenjiang Bao and other Shanghainese Won-Ton.
BTW, a word of warning! Their product list is in Chinese characters only!.....a sign of real authenticity?! However, I believe the sales lady do speak a bit of English!
