Shanghai Cafe UTC (San Diego)

We were driving a friend to the airport today and needed to have a quick good dinner in 40 minutes in UTC. At first I thought it simply doesn't exist, but I remembered "that Chinese Cafe" next to Vons called Shanghai Cafe. This is a hidden strip mall right next to the Mormon church and surrounded by condos.

The pros are decent food, good quantity, relatively fast, reasonably priced, super casual, and suitable for takeout or eating on your own. It's also next to Vons and you can order before groceries and pick up your food to go. We sat in and took 30 minutes in and out, $10 a person including tax.

I've been going here for 7 years but it's been a while since last time mainly because I've been eating a lot of Chinese in Los Angeles lately. If you know what to order, it's delicious and reasonably priced in my opinion. It serves some awesome 10 ingredient fried rice ($8.50) and Iceland Cod Filet in black sauce ($10.25). Most of their customers do take-out, and I used to get my groceries at Vons and picked it up after. We also ordered the Shanghai special (white wine sauce)- it's good but not exceptional as these other two. If you have lunch it's even cheaper.

I forgot to take a picture of the Cod filet - when I'm hungry I get the fried rice and when I want decent fish I get the Cod filet. They've been consistent for 7 years and is a decent place if you want something above fast food but fairly quick.
