I'm an SF resident working in the food business, and lots of ideas/discussions/projects are sparked by what's happening in the restaurant world--trends, innovations, traditional dishes re-emerging with interesting twists (or just being done very well). I'll be there in June and am wondering what recommendations you have for restaurants with dishes that fit these criteria. Any cuisine fits the bill, though I'm especially interested in Asian, Italian, Spanish, other Mediterranean, and traditional "American"--new, comfort, etc.

Spice Market (probably can't get in, but you never know...)

What's missing? What should be missed? Any other spots to make sure to visit, for any food items, from takeout, to bakeries, to confections, etc?
