I grew up in PDX but have lived in San Francisco for quite awhile. I'm heading back to Portland soon to celebrate my parents' 35th (!) wedding anniversary.
As a family, we've been addicted to Giorgio's for awhile (despite occasionally slow service). Other memorable places I've tried on visits in the past few years are Higgins and Wildwood, both of which were great.
So, I have a group of 8. We love food. This is a celebratory dinner, but many members of the party feel uncomfortable with overly formal settings.... but sure do like a great wine list and the best possible food.
Do you have suggestions? I was reading posts about Gotham Building Tavern - is it too "industrial" and urban-feeling for a parental anniversary celebration?? Will they feel left out of the hipness? What is this Carlyle place all about? We don't mind hustle and bustle (esp. since an 11 year old is part of the mix)... my parents rejected Paley's Place as being too "hushed" and small for my nephew...
So to make a long post hopefully shorter, do you have any suggestions for a delicious dinner for 8 taking the above into account?
