SF Chowhound visits Manhattan

Hi fellow hounds!

I'm planning a week-long trip to NYC early next month, staying in Manhattan. I'm coming from SF and planning to hit a few shows. I will be working during the days though.

I'm looking for both cuisine and specific restaurant recommendations that I cannot get at home. E.g., that rules out almost all Mexican, Mission Chinese, and Babu Ji.

I am fairly carnivorous, but I don't eat cheese (no pizza), pork/pig, and avoid most shellfish. I will probably be dining with one or two friends, but may be solo for a few meals as well. I will probably spend most of my time in Manhattan.

Would also love suggestions for shows.

I have an affinity for inexpensive restaurants, but could easily hit at least 2-3 nice (e.g., ~$100/head) places and could be persuaded to try something more expensive if it was truly amazing and unlike anything in SF. I have been to some high-end places like Meadowood before. I can go to places for both lunch and dinner, even though I will be working. I also want to try some great babkas.

I've already been to:
Barney Greengrass
Taverna Kyclades (recommended by a Greek friend)
Carnegie Deli (RIP)
Jack's Wife Freda

Sleep no more
Frick Collection
The Met (may need to go back, its enormous!)
Book of Mormon

Anyway, I've looked through a few threads, and I want to try:

Xian Famous Foods
Russ and Daughters
Issan food (where do I go?)
Henen food (where do I go?)

Then She Fell

So my questions are:

1. What cuisine is great in NYC and sucks in SF? What is only available in NYC?

2. What restaurants would you recommend specifically?

3. Any shows you think are outstanding?

4. What unusual asian

Thanks in advance!

Mission Chinese Food,
Carnegie Deli Inc,
Russ & Daughters
