We just got back from a week in Seville. While the city holds many delights, fine dining isn't one of them. Tapas, in particular, are highly predictable and for the most part unexciting, usually consisting of fried seafood or something swimming in oil.

One notable exception to this was the delicatessen and tapas bar called Alacena de St. Eloi. Set in a small, modernized space with the obligatory hams hanging behind the counter, they bring some much needed zing and innovation to their tapas. Their long menu included a melted cabrales cheese with chestnut cream, manchego cheese with marinated mussels, and many other delicious things. They also have an extensive range of good sherry and wine by the glass, and they have frequent tastings. No other tapas bar I visited even came close to them.

There are two locations. The one I went to was on Calle Aquilas near the Casa de Pilatos. There is another one on St. Eloi. If you want to eat well, seek this place out.
