I want to replicate a chicken dish that I had at a Sichuanese restaurant (Hong Kong Palace in Falls Church, VA). It is similar to three pepper chicken but it has chiles stuffed with sesame mixed into it. The sesame is slightly sweet but not quite like regular rock hard candied sesame.
After some net research, I thought it might be Magic Chili chile-sesame-peanut snack mixed in, so I got some of that. Magic Chili snack looks so similar (and is really damned good, I've been eating it like a bag of potato chips) but it doesn't have the candied sesame stuffed chiles, just a bunch of regular roasted sesame and some gets stuck inside the chiles. I did read that people like to stir fry Magic Chili with meat dishes, and I found some Sichuanese restaurants that make Magic Chili chicken using it, so I'll try that. But HK Palace was not using that. It's quite similar, but not that.
Is there another product similar to Magic Chili that the restaurant is probably using? If you know the brand, please let me know. I found a picture of what HK Palace probably used, but the author of the source blog post just labels it "Sichuan snack treats" and says s/he got a complimentary bowl at a restaurant.
