We went last week. It was my first time at Serge (formerly Brasserie Cafe Creme). We almost didn't go after reading posts on menupages.com and City Search (nothing came up after a search of this Board). SO had been to Serge many times, but not recently. We didn't have a reservation and were seated promptly in the back room. There was also a large party in the room so our server graciously offered to move us to the front room/bar area. We only saw 4 servers (including the hostess), Serge was not there. Service was fine.
I had the prix fixe dinner, a value at $26.95 for escargot ($3 surcharge), coq au vin old fashioned style and creme caramel. My coq au vin was delicious. SO had wild mushroom ravioli appetizer and grilled salmon. We had a bottle of wine. Espresso.
The atmosphere is cozy and Serge has a neighborhood feel. It can get noisy and lively. For example, the large group that was in the back room and the large party that came into the bar area (near our table) before we left. We overheard the host of the large party tell the hostess they had emailed for a 9:10 reservation and hostess responded that she had advised only 9:30 was available. While they waited the party received a complimentary glass of red wine. Unless there is a large group, sit in the back room. Serge is also a nice option if you are a large group (seating in back room or in front window) on a budget. Not a destination place, would definitely return for good, reasonable food and service.
