I want to give my Dad a gift certificate for a nice dinner out as a 70th birthday present. I haven't lived in the area in a long time and am completely out of it regarding what's good, and a search of the board has simply confused me. He and wife live in Concord, and think nothing of going into Boston, but no need to restrict suggestions to Boston.
He has a decent palate, though is not a chowhound by any means. Due to wife's dietary/spicing restrictions, I would probably say that cuisine types should be limited to the various European varieties, New American, or fish-focused (but not Legal's or Summer Shack). I'd like to give them $100 to work with, including maybe one drink but not a bottle of wine or tip.
PS: ...or should I just go the AMEX Gift Check route and leave them to their own devices? Wanted to try and turn them onto something they might not have tried before...
