I blog about souvenirs, and lots of them end up being food. I am heading back to Italy in September and want to visit some off the radar place where they make incredible olive oil or cheese (I am assuming two different places but didn't want to ask a similar questions twice). I am interested in the kind of product that isn't exported because the producer is so small but is so spectacular that it's the kind of thing you'd think about booking a flight for just to refill your supply. Other food souvenir suggestions welcome too. I'd prefer the producers to be within a three hour train ride/drive from Milan but will travel anywhere for an incredible, special product.
