We are bemoaning the loss of Wing Shoon restaurant at the intersection of East Broadway, Canal & Rutgers -- their menu stuff was okay, but they made a darn good bao. It was our local place to pick up a good, meaty char siu or dai bao on the way to work and we're having trouble finding a replacement.
Bakeries tend not to have steamed buns, and their meat buns are long on bun and short on meat. We're hoping to find that kind of restaurant that's open in the morning and has that steam cabinet behind the register. Or a street cart maybe? I know where to get them further west, but we're trying to find something local, on East Broadway or far east Canal. We walked the length of East Broadway poking our heads into likely places and did't have much luck.
Any advice from hounds on the bao trail would be appreciated!
