Seeking the right splurge resto., pls help me choose

It’s my turn to choose a destination restaurant for a biannual splurge-a-thon with my favorite dining companion. (What an onerous task, eh?) We usually do a tasting menu if it’s available. Previous indulgences include Elizabeth Daniel, Farallon, Aqua, Masa’s (under Ron Siegel), Chez TJ, Fifth Floor (under the prior chef, can't recall the name), Fleur de Lys, Gary Danko, and Campton Place.

The front-runners are Manresa, Michael Mina, Boulevard, Jardiniere, and La Folie.* I’ve read posts on this board, as well as Michael Bauer’s recent report on 4-stars in the Chron. The food is key, of course, but the place should be celebratory, and I hate being stuck at a bad table, e.g., Fleur's anti-room. Could those Hounds who’ve had fairly recent experience chime in on my dilemma?

Many thanks!

Lisa.

*I’m leaving Ritz Carlton off the list for now because we’ve “done” Ron Siegel (and boy was he good). I’m leaving F.L. out because I’ll never get a res. Any stellar locations that I’ve missed?
