Its my turn to choose a destination restaurant for a biannual splurge-a-thon with my favorite dining companion. (What an onerous task, eh?) We usually do a tasting menu if its available. Previous indulgences include Elizabeth Daniel, Farallon, Aqua, Masas (under Ron Siegel), Chez TJ, Fifth Floor (under the prior chef, can't recall the name), Fleur de Lys, Gary Danko, and Campton Place.
The front-runners are Manresa, Michael Mina, Boulevard, Jardiniere, and La Folie.* Ive read posts on this board, as well as Michael Bauers recent report on 4-stars in the Chron. The food is key, of course, but the place should be celebratory, and I hate being stuck at a bad table, e.g., Fleur's anti-room. Could those Hounds whove had fairly recent experience chime in on my dilemma?
*Im leaving Ritz Carlton off the list for now because weve done Ron Siegel (and boy was he good). Im leaving F.L. out because Ill never get a res. Any stellar locations that Ive missed?
