Seeking perfect waffle recipe to satisfy an INTENSE craving

beetlebug | Jan 27, 201104:35 AM

Ok, I'm not a pancake or waffle eater. I never seek them out and if I go out for breakfast, I always seek the savory. But, for the last 5 months of so, I have had the most intense craving for waffles. And, it's specific. Really specific. So specific that I know that the real thing isn't going to taste as good as it does in my head.

A friend of mine is loaning me her waffle maker next month. Since I know this craving will probably pass after one waffle, I want to have the almost perfect waffle recipe to get as close to the taste in my head.

So, this is what I'm looking for in my version of the perfect waffle:

1. Crispy side - however, after you bite into the crispy part, there will be a slight give in the middle that's soft, but then your teeth will then pass into the crispy part.

2. Belgian flavored - slightly carmelized flavor as well as hints of vanilla

3. Big sugar crystals in the dough. I should be able to visually see the sugar crystals when the waffle is cooked. Also, I should be able to mouth feel the sugar particles in my bite of the waffle. I don't want the waffle to be overly sweet.

On the side, I plan on having fresh whipped cream, blueberries/strawberries, and some sort of dark chocolate sauce. All on the side so it doesn't make my waffle soggy.

Lastly, I've never made waffles before. So any hints and tips are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks so much for your patience in my slight craving craziness.
