I have been on a semi-perpetual quest for some amazing hot and sour soup that I used to get at an NYC Chinese restaurant, they have since closed.
For any old school hounds it was the Shanghai Cafe on 126th and Broadway. Family legend has it that it is the first restaurant I ever ate at while in a stroller. Not just nostalgia, the food there was some of the best Chinese I ever ate. From the beef with black bean sauce to the shrimp with lobster sauce, it really defined excellent old school NY Chinese. Unfortunately it closed in the early 80s.
I figure, don't cry over spilled soup, why not make it myself.
Does anyone have a good recipe for Hot and sour? With that excellent combination of tangy and zingy and full of all sorts of good stuff?
Thanks in advance.
