Hello Chowhounds South!
For Christmas, I'd love to get my folks (snowbirds in Bradenton) a gift certificate for a good meal. I know they love Hickory Hollow BBQ and their special occasion place is the Sandbar. Basically, Mom is elegant and adventurous, and Dad is, er, not so much. I can take Mom out somewhere spiffy in person later, but for the gift certificate, I'm thinking of Dad. Casual is good. He's not a "super foodie" but loves good barbecue. He's particularly fussy about seafood. In other words, it doesn't need to be covered in elegant creative sauces, but it *must* be very fresh and prepared well (even if it's fried). A nice water view is a bonus, but if the seafood is excellent, the place could be a shack in a shipyard. They don't drink alcohol, so wine menus, etc., are not a factor.
I can always go with the Sandbar, but after reading some of the postings here, I'm hoping y'all can help me come up with a new spot. And now that I've found Chowhounds, I'll definitely have to check out the Boston area site...
Thanks so much!
