One of mine is a revolving sushi bar like the one we used to go to in Marina del Rey years ago when I had a less educated sushi palette but it was so Fun. Last night after a big shop at the Sri Lankan Deli on Ventura we went next door to Cho Cho San which advertised a revolving sushi bar - it was not much past 6pm and the place was jammed. So much fun - a huge family style counter which wound around three sushi chefs. The revolving bar doesn't have open plates anymore - the dishes have plastic hats on them cheek by jowl to plastic covered pictures of what can be ordered. This is far from Tokyo style service! But what was so joyous was to see a wide variety of patrons - young, old, valley hip, ethnic mafia guys, kids, parents sitting around in a very upbeat atmosphere enjoying eating together. Our neighbors quickly told us what to order: 911 spicy tuna - a roll stuffed with spicy covered in rice and avocado - neighbors told us to sprinkle sweet rice vinegar on it to cut the spicy - we did, it was really delicious.
Also ordered yellowtail sushi - fish good, rice not right; shrimp tempura - excellent and a plethora of rolls stuffed with scallops (marvellous) and a few others with names to make me blanche like three in one; dynamo, gypsy three and a lot of rolls using seaweed wrappers which the young women were eating.
Bill was $37 and we had a lot to eat. Counter was very roomy and a great way to finish a difficult Monday. Very kid friendly (they were still eating with forks, but I have hopes).
