We've been to Vancouver 5 or 6 times now and have got ourselves in a rut: we always stay at the Marriott (points slaves!)and do our dining faves, which to date include picnicking at the Granville Market, Chambar, Jules, Vij's, Bacchus...but this trip (the New Year!) we want to try something different. We're staying at L'Hermitage New Year's Eve thru Saturday pm. No car this trip. Looking for 3 squares on Thurs & Fri, plus maybe a late brunch/lunch on Saturday before catching the train back.
For breakfast, we'll do anything from excellent coffee & pastries to the full monty. The closer to our hotel, the better.
For lunch, we like to take a break from walking, especially if the weather is cool/rainy (what are the chances?!?), so prefer a casual but sit-down experience. Also, we've been criminally lazy about finding good Chinese.
We LOVE our moules frites so we'd be interested in alternatives to our fave French(ish) bistros, as well as some downtown Indian. We also enjoy steak and seafood, but we're open to anything that's not too trendy or precious.
We'd like to stay adjacent to downtown or at least easy public transpo and find a place that is ok to wear the requisite black-and-jeans that passes for PacNW chic in January.
Given all that, Vancouver hounds, have you got some recs? Would very much appreciate your expertise and advice.
