As a very recently transplanted New Yorker in Portland, I now realize how spoiled I was by the NYC message boards.
Now that I'm in Portland and check these boards, I'm finding it really difficult to look at the hot posts or even the NW Board itself and figure our which posts pertain to Portland, OR. Using the search engine isn't as useful as you would think because people actually have to use the word "Portland" in the post and that isn't happening often enough.
Please oh please - help me find a way not to give up on this site I used to love so much - because I don't have the time or patience (I'm still a New Yorker, after all!) to read through every darn post...especially since even then I still have no clue where folks are talking about...and I don't think that looking up every place name I don't know is a reasonable thing...Issaquah is in WA, right? ;o)
Where I used to check daily in NYC, I barely make it here 1x/week, and then I usually just give up in frustration.
I don't want to have to e-mail Jim Dixon everytime I want to find a good spot to eat!! Although I thank you Mr. Dixon for your posts and your website and the wweek.com (Willamette Week) reference that I have been using instead of chowhound...I really love this site and am frustrated by my inability to use it as I have in the past.
I look forward to posting on what I find here in the future...and I will make sure the heading starts with the word, "Portland!"
