Do Seattle diners care about supporting local restaurant owners?

Lines out the door at Cheesecake Factory, Beppo, Spaghetti Factory. These places are not that cheap. Has anyone ever been to Woodinville? It's a wealthy area, clearly able to support restaurants, but only about 4 restaurants are NOT chains. What gives?

For a relatively big city, Seattle and the surrounding areas seem to be home to a lot of chain-mentality diners. Comparably, I mean---think about NY, San Fran, even awful LA diners seem to support their local restaurateurs more than Seattle does. Am I the only one that sees this? Perhaps this board is the wrong place for this kind of rant, since it's for people that follow restaurants and look for good food...but I'd love to know your theories on why this is....
