Searching for Good Thai

First time poster.

For our first Valentine's Day, my wife and I went to a kitschy Thai spot in Washington D.C. (our then home). It was a perfect choice. We'd only been dating for a few weeks; Thai offered a touch of the exotic (she's from Iowa, I'm from Ohio--neither are ethnic hotbeads) without a huge price tag or the typical Valentine's Day drama.

Ever since, we've endeavored to eat Thai food every Valentine's Day. Unfortunately, since we moved to Chicago (Wicker Park) a few years ago, we haven't found a Thai spot that we liked. After another ho-hum holiday, we've about decided to stay home and cook it ourselves...or else choose a new ethnicity.

Before we throw in the towel, I'd solicit your thoughts. What do you recommend for solid, cheap(ish) Thai food? I'm not looking for a VTK-type place here but a smaller, more neighborhood-y joint.
