I moved here from New York over 20 years ago and had given up finding good bagels. The other day 309 was backed up (again) so I took a short cut through downtown Oreland. There I came across a bakery called Mindy's Desserts. I can't just drive by a bakery I haven't tried before so I stopped in. I was admiring the apple strudels in the case when I noticed a basket of dark bagels with crust bubbles. After being told they make them there using the traditional boiling and baking method I tried one. It's the real thing. I have finally found a good New York style bagel.
BTW, the apple strudels were awesome. The muffin I had was good but, oddly, it was very cold. It had obviously been refrigerated. The butter cookies and other pastries look good so I'll be back to try them.
