the search for a bigne, the Italian cronut

lizardqueen | Aug 14, 201309:44 AM

Before cronuts were here, the Italians invented bignes - puffy pastry balls filled with flavored custard and frosted on 1 side. I've only seen them in Italy, especially around Florence. Sometimes the frosting was strawberry, sometimes maple or vanilla, and often the custard had a liqueur spike. They were about the size of a tennis ball, not too big and the PERFECT breakfast food. I just moved to LA from NYC, where bignes were not available. Will I have any luck here?
