Dear Hounds:
Any ideas about where I might find apply jelly in the Mid-City area or on the Westside? When I was growing up here in Los Angeles, it was readily availbale in all of the supermarkets; but it has disappeared. I remember Smuckers and Tropical brands offered Apple Jelly.
The demographics have changed dramatically, and markets that used to be in areas populated mostly by Blacks from the South are now catering to a Latino demographic. My Cuban husband used to joke that Mexicans and Central Americans must not like apple jelly. I don't know if that is true, but the markets no longer seem to carry it; and the Cuban markets where we buy guava paste and jelly never did carry apple.
I'd like to bake my grandmother's apple jelly cake for the Holidays, if I can get some apple jelly. I'm not looking for preserves. Just plain, old apple jelly. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks from,
T-D. González
