Seafood on the west side

Gypsy Boy | Feb 3, 2003 07:22 AM

Greeting from chilly Chicago...

I'm coming out to LA this Friday and need a seafood recommendation for Saturday evening.

Yes, I've perused the LA board. Seems to be great agreement about Water Grille but I'm not clear about what other choices I may have. Besides, that's downtown.

I'm inclined, for this particular meal, to steer AWAY from Asian, given the companions. They live in Bel Air so I'm thinking perhaps Santa Monica, Marina del Rey, etc., though I'm open to other places. We just don't want to spend the night in the car. I am NOT thinking Century City (though it may have changed since I lived in LA twenty years ago).

What I'm looking for is high quality food above all else. Price is important but not a reason to avoid truly excellent food. It need not be tres chic; matter of fact, it probably shouldn't be tres chic. After all, I'm from the flyover states, n'est-ce pas?

Thanks for helping a stranger,
