(SEA) Tamarind Tree - Vietnamese

This place just opened in the ID (off Jackson just below 12th). The service really needs work but the food definitely doesn't.

My experience with Vietnamese has been coffee pho, bun and sandwiches. Tamarind Trees menu offers a huge variety. Some of the samplings:

Tamarind Tree soup - seafood in a tangy broth
pickled bon bon salad - bon bon is like bamboo. The salad is done in the green mango/green papaya style and had amazing grilled shrimp over top.
Beef la-lot rolls - delicious. Delicious dipping sauce.
Eggplant - whole Japanese eggplant steamed with chili and nam pla to doctor it with. Much more exciting than I first thought.
Stuffed tofu with tomato sauce - Lovely.

Even the drinks were great -- condensed milk and lime juice over crushed ice and candied kumquat soda. Wow!
