[SEA] Szechuan Bean Flower Restaurant

This one is on Aurora, 10005-10007 Aurora Avenue N, 206-525-1380.

I have had multiple meals there over the past few weeks. My favorites:

spicy wontons appetizer: little bowl of fiery red yet still flavorful broth, with tasty wontons swimmings in it. The little kick on the tongue, not exactly "spicy" but just pure buzz, is rather habit-forming.

this one is on the sit-down menu, on the insert, but not on the takeout menu: fatty intestine hot pot. If you like tripe, you will love this! So fatty, so sinfully good. The bamboo shoots are bursting with spice and flavor.

Spicy boiled beef: fiery hot slices of tender beef with a killer spicy sauce, on top of shredded napa cabbage.

bitter melon and pork: another sign that this restaurant means business about authentic Chinese food. Bitter melon is an acquired taste, but if you can stand the first five minutes, you will soon be hooked.

Other standouts include leeks and Chinese bacon stirfry. I have not tried their mapo tofu, but that might change by the end of tonight.

The decor is a little mish-mash, what with the lattice dividers overhead, a fountain, and mirrored walls....but the food will make you stare only on your table.

Seven Stars Pepper is great too for spicy Szechuan, but for the North Side I highly recommend this Szechuan Bean Flower Restaurant joint!!
