I've been looking forward to the opening of the new neighborhood joint, Cocina Esperanza, all summer long and was excited to see the lights on and customers at the tables tonight. When my sweetie got home at 8 we walked over, only to be turned away without any grace or tact.
Ostensibly, they were closing early. This was understandable enough, but first the waitress told us they were open, then that they were closed. Then, she kept repeating "Goodbye" to us as the couple who came in behind us were seated. That couple owns the coffee shop next door. Clearly, we just weren't as important.
The situation could have been handled with grace and aplomb, instead it just seemed rude.
As someone who lives in the neighborhood, I am not eager to go back.
