Sea Dragon

I have loved Sea Dragon for many, many years. It is well known in the Vietnamese and Chinese-Vietnamese community. The owners are Chinese from Vietnam. It is a popular place for Vietnamese and Chinese-Vietnamese wedding banquets, too. Over the years I have been a guest at wedding receptions there, and the food is always spectacular.

I have never eaten from the buffet there. I usually order off of the menu. Some faves are:

#49 Hủ Tiếu Áp Chảo Đồ Biển
Pan Fried Rice Stick with Shrimp, Scallop & Squid-this is an amazing dish. It is a Vietnamese answer to chow fun or char kway teow. Large fresh rice noodles are pressed against a well oiled blazing hot wok to crisp them up so you end up with a combination of soft rice noodle next to crisped slightly crunch rice noodle tossed with a delicious seafood combo with veg stir fry.

The Mi Xao Don is wonderful, too (#40-41).

Clay pot dishes are excellent, as are any of the whole fish options.

72. Bò Lúc Lắc Blackened Steak Cubes-AKA Shaking beef. A lot of restos try to get away with serving deep fried beef cubes for this, but Sea Dragon does this right and the beef is fragrant with wok-hei, well browned on the outside and tender and rare on the inside.

I love all of the salt and pepper seafood options at Sea Dragon. Most often I order salt and pepper soft shell crab. If I am in the mood for a fancier meal, we may go for the salt and pepper crab or lobster. This is also great restaurant to get Cantonese style lobster with ginger-scallion as well (#82)-this is a GREAT dish.

This place also has great crawfish when the season comes around.

I have pretty much always stuck to their Chinese-Vietnamese dishes, especially the seafood which they are famous for. I have never tried their com tam or bun or pho since Austin has other restos that specialize in this fare and Sea Dragon is known for the Chinese-Vietnamese seafood and banquet genre. But for all I know, these could be great, too.
