Per Se . . . or Mina?

Marty L. | Aug 4, 2004 06:31 PM

My friend JGS, a regular contributor to the Manhattan Board, is celebrating his birthday this evening at Mina, exactly one night after dining at Per Se. (He had not previously been to either.) From the ridiculous to the sublime?

I'm starting this thread not only to wish him a happy and healthy birthday, and to congratulate him on his good taste in choosing such contrasting celebration locales, but also so that he can jump in and describe the dual experiences, and because I figured that, while there have been gazillions of posts on both restaurants, I'll bet this particular comparison is one topic that's never been discussed on either board!

Other than deliciousness and cooking with love -- as if anything else mattered -- do Per Se and Mina share anything in common worth discussing? Where would you rather celebrate your birthday?

Most importantly, for those of you who read this in the next hour, are there any recent must-have recommendations for Mina? JGS will be calling me for tips very soon.

Thanks in advance. (If anyone thinks it's worthwhile, please feel free to cross-post, or at least to cross-link, on the Manhattan Board.)
